DJ Quik is a Compton, California, rapper and producer. When it comes to West Coast producers, DJ Quik is at the top of all lists. Classic albums such as Quik Is The Name (1990) and Way 2 Funky (1992) solidified DJ Quik in the 90’s Gangster Rap era of Hip Hop. Having put out several other albums since then, DJ Quik made his career producing for others. Known for his unique style of production, DJ Quik has been sought out by artists such as Jay-Z, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, and many more to work on their projects. From a young age, Quik started to develop his musical prowess. At the age of 12, he was teaching himself how to play different instruments, and by the age of 21, he had become a multi-platinum-selling artist. After having released his first couple of albums, Quik launched his Mad Science Records label. Here, he would release Trauma (2005) and (2006), among many others that followed. Most recently, in 2016, DJ Quik put out the EP, Rosecrans, a collaboration he did with Compton native rapper, Problem.

David Marvin Blake (born January 18, 1970), better known by his stage name DJ Quik, is an American hip hop recording artist, DJ and record producer. According to Quik himself, his stage name reflects his ability to produce records in a short period of time. Blake was born on January 18, 1970 in Compton, California. He was chiefly inspired by funk and soul artists, such as Roger Troutman (who even taught him the use of the talkbox, which became a trademark for Quik's sound throughout his career) and George Clinton. Out of respect for his beloved friend, Roger Troutman, he retired the talkbox.
