Two of the most iconic figures in the genres of Bebop, Hard bop, Hard Bop & Post Bop are the legendary jazz masters: Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Of all the musicians who took part in those revolutionary, cre-ative genres, it was only Miles Davis who was active in all 3 of them. Being a member of the Charlie Parker Quintet, Miles became active around the mid-40s and continued, bringing creativity until around mid-60s, which was becoming the end of the Post Bop era. Wed., May 13th, I will be presenting an exciting lineup honoring these 2 jazz greats, featuring on trumpet the phenomenal 18-year-old teenager, SKYLAR TANG, who displays amazing maturity on her horn. Veteran, former New Yorker, STEVE HECK-MAN, will be joining her on the frontline. Additionally, the master percussionist/vocalist HECTOR LUGO, as always, will make an important contribution. The powerful rhythm section, including DOUG MILLER, bass, and JASON LEWIS, drums + myself on piano, will be on hand driving the ensemble. The featured vocalist, JAMIE DAVIS, is a perfect choice, singing classics from the John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman masterful recording!
